Raja Ampat archipelago in the Indonesian Papua: paradise above and under water

Who wouldn’t like a full week spent at a tropical, green archipelago surrounded by pristine waters? Writing this makes me want to throw myself back to those worry-free 7 days (almost a year ago) of a sailing trip at one of the natural marine wonders of our planet.

This post comes all the way from the magnificent marine park of Raja Ampat in Papua.

Raja Ampat is an archipelago on the northern tip of the Bird’s Peninsula on the island of New Guinea or Papua, as it’s locally called. It belongs to Indonesian territory and is one of the easternmost provinces in the archipelago. Raja Ampat is a local language for Four Kings. In terms of history, Raja Ampat Archipelago in the 15th century was part of the reign of Tidore Sultanate, a great kingdom centered in Moluccas Islands. The Sultanate of Tidore appointed 4 local kings to rule the islands of Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool, which are the four largest islands to this day. The term 4 Kings who rule the islands became the root of the name Raja Ampat.

We spent the whole week in Raja Ampat. We were a group of 6, sailing on a wooden boat to explore the archipelago. This is the best way to explore the area: since it is an archipelago, you need to spend most of your days on or in the water to get the best experience of Raja Ampat.

Raja Ampat is claimed to boast the richest marine biodiversity in the world.

Right from the moment I arrived in the islands, I couldn’t stop my admiration of the beautiful surroundings – its breathtaking landscape and waters just blew my mind away.

Many locals claimed these islands to be a paradise on Earth, and I must agree with that statement!

We started from the central islands of the archipelago.

We were presented with a wide array of beautiful corals from the first days.

– encouraging to see that in the age when many coral reefs suffer from bleaching due to pollution.

the jungle covered islets, that often appear in the internet as a classic example of ‘tropical paradise’.

Swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, fishing, are among the things you could enjoy in the sailing trips… In Raja Ampat, you can even feed sharks and swim with them too!

Well, they weren’t that huge, but at first it was scary and made me nervous… Soon enough though, I found myself mingle with those sharks at ease, which was quite fascinating.

There are lodges on the bigger islands, and some of them offer full packages, where you can do a lot of water activities. But for me, sailing trip seemed to be the best way to experience Raja Ampat, as it allowed to wander as far as we wanted.

It was also great to have some breaks from being on/in the water, and explore the islands – even hiking naked in the tropical forest!

While the rest of the group were not keen on disrobing, I managed to exercise some naturism, mostly away from the group. I must admit that I am a newbie to naturism, which prevented me from being myself and naked in the whole journey… but I still enjoyed a good portion of it in the buff! I still recall how nice it felt to be naked and let the tropical breeze sweep your skin.

It was definitely hot, but enjoyable. As many have said, the sun is the best treatment.

Best part? Of course swimming naked and snorkeling in the most beautiful underwater world!

If you are keen on spending some of the best days of your life in this paradise, I would surely recommend you to visit the islands. The authorities restrict the number of tourists visiting the islands, which is actually nice, as you can enjoy the islands almost all to yourself when you get there, especially, once again, if you take a sailing trip. The crew of the boat might be not too familiar with naturism, if you want to make it a nude sailing trip, but I think they’d be open enough if you could explain it to them.

The oldest living forest is as sacred as it gets for someone who is into natural history – and that is what Schulman grove of the ancient bristlecone pine forest is. Just imagine walking among the living beings that are as old the Egyptian pyramids! Discovery of these ancient plants was very important for dendrochronology, the technique of dating events, particularly climatic changes, by the characteristic patterns of annual growth rings tree trunks. There is a nice tourist information centre, where you can get brochures about these trees and maps with the trails. This is not an official naturist territory, but being a part of the Inyo National Forest, it is a federal land, and there’s no federal law against nudity; needless to say we wanted to experience the hike in this ancient forest ‘as nature intended’, naked. We of course picked the longest trail, which is ~4 miles, and didn’t see any other hikers.

Looking at the cones, you clearly see how this tree got its name. Young seed cones are quite brightly colored; it takes them two years to mature.

Given very dry conditions in the area, fallen cones accumulate in massive numbers before decaying,

Perhaps a part of the bristlecone pine can die, even a large part, but even then it can go on with whatever is left. We were hiking on a beautiful warm and calm sunny day… but at these elevations of more than 3km above sea level, conditions can change drastically from hot to cold – throughout the day, and throughout the year; and surely it can get very windy there too.

There is hardly any rain, winter brings precipitation but as snow. As the brochure explained, the bristlecone pines reach their record age not despite these harsh conditions but rather because of them, because they have to grow extremely slow. there are some other plants too.

Rock Spiraea creates a very dense moss-like cover, soft to touch.

But it’s certainly no moss, with its flowers sticking out… and attracting flies. I thought that they would stink, as many flowers do when they use flies for pollination, but I couldn’t smell anything.

And it’s just a very pleasant hike – not too easy, but not too demanding either. (But keep in mind there are also shorter trails, if you don’t have much time or aren’t adjusted well to lower oxygen levels at this altitude).

Secret Cove at Lake Tahoe

Secret Cove on the Lake Tahoe shore was our “decompression” destination after Burning Man last year, but it surely would have been an amazing place to visit even if we hadn’t spent a week in the dusty desert: crystal clear water and fresh mountain air is a great start, but add to that stunning views and a nice laid-back atmosphere, and you’ll see why this spot is so remarkable.

You can enjoy the views of snow-peaked mountains while sunbathing and swimming naked – a combination that is hard to find. As our previous post-burn destinations were oceanic beaches of San Francisco – Marshall’s and Baker – where the water is always cold and obviously salty, Lake Tahoe was clearly a better choice for rehydration of the body, as we could swim in its fresh and refreshing waters.

Another creature that you’re likely to see sunbathing on the rocks but away from the water is the sagebrush lizard.

Though it’s quite shy and will hide in the bushes if you approach it.

You won’t need to hide your naked self from anyone though, as Secret Cove is an officially recognized clothing-optional location,

popular with locals and tourists alike. Of course most visitors opt for no clothes. This might be a reason why the atmosphere is so friendly there; e.g., I overheard a conversation between a local couple and tourists from Switzerland who had just met there, and an hour later the former invited the latter for a family dinner 🙂

It gets quite busy in the afternoon, as that’s when the thin mountain air gets finally warm (but beware that high altitude also means stronger sun activity). Given that it’s a relatively small cove surrounded by high banks, it doesn’t get too windy. The mornings, however, can be quite chilly even in August and September, and you are more likely to encounter bird-watchers rather than nude sunbathers during early hours.

As an alternative to driving and hiking, some people arrive by boats

When we were there, two women did yoga on the paddle board, something I’m eager to try sometime to challenge my balancing skills.

A large portion of Lake Tahoe shore, including the Secret Cove, is covered by coniferous forest. The most notable tree is the sugar pine,

which is the tallest pine species

and boasts the longest cones of any conifers.

I’m not sure why it’s got its name, perhaps due to the sap leaking from the cones that may appear like a sweet nectar.

Fifteen shades of tan… on Sandy Hook beach

Finally, summer weather has come to New York and it’s time to open beach season here! My favorite beach around is Gunnison on Sandy Hook peninsula in New Jersey. I’ve written about it on multiple occasions already (just make a search on the site for other blogposts), but I have some nice photos to share from last year – in anticipation of yet another great beach time this summer!

The best way to get to Sandy Hook from New York City is by Seastreak ferry.

I used to post the discount coupons for it, but it seems there’s no need for it anymore. According to the ferry website, starting this year, with fist departure of the day, you always get a $30 return ticket to the beach (regular is $45). A sad news is that there is no late departure from the beach anymore – the last ferry to the city is at 5:45pm, while it used to be 7:45pm – no more sunsets on the ferry? However, there is a shuttle to the late ferry departing from the town nearby. Update: the late ferry is back on the schedule!

The ocean water is probably still too cold to swim properly this weekend, but there are plenty of other activities to do on the beach! Volleyball is very popular at Gunnison beach, as expected from a naturist location.

But our favorite pastime last summer was acro-yoga.

It was great to see how engaging it was, as a few strangers joined,

while I was practicing acro-yoga with my friends David, Eddy, Antony and others. (Remember our spontaneous handstand class 3 years ago?)

Acro-yoga creates a great connection between the ‘flyer’ and the ‘base’,

and it’s even greater when done in the nude.

It’s quite an amazing experience,

if you do it in the open air, especially in a place like this beautiful beach

with Manhattan skyline in the background.

But we also experimented with a log as the base –

floating in the air yoga?

Probably the most entertaining acro-yoga pose is ‘the laughing dragon’ (you might remember some more pics of it from last year’s Burning Man post).

Well, the more participants the merrier!

So, Sandy Hook is a perfect place for socializing and getting your all-over tan!

PS Sandy Hook is also good for watching airplanes coming to NYC airports. Who can spot an airplane on one of the photos in this post? Where does it seem to be landing? 😉

PPS If you like to bring a lot of stuff with you to the beach, which can be difficult while walking on sand, you should support this campaign for funding of the extension of the matted walkway!

contest announced: ‘reading while sunbathing naked’!

Active Naturists are teaming up with Passive Naturists and announce a new contest in our favorite [passive] pastime – sunbathing. Our group has of course insisted on making it at least slightly active, so it will be combined with reading. The idea is simple: read while you sunbathe! We shall have two categories: sprinter and endurance.

In the sprinter competition, the winner will be defined by the speed of reading, i.e. whoever finishes reading a book first. Our book choice is ‘The Southern Vampire Mysteries’ novels by Charlaine Harris, on which ‘True Blood’ TV series are based. However, the contestants will have an option to pick other books of their choice (including in their native language) as long as the number of words is exactly the same (contents excluded).

In the endurance competition, the winner will have to read any book(s) continuously for the longest amount of time while sunbathing naked; note that both reading and sunbathing may not be interrupted even for physiological needs!

Given that we expect our contestants to endure well longer than a typical day has sun hours to offer, we shall hold this competition in the Arctic starting on the summer solstice day to ensure that the sun won’t set before we can identify the winner!

Tiergarten: perfect park for urban naturism

I’m finally updating information on Berlin, the most naturist-friendly city in my opinion, and I’ll start with its main park Tiergarten in the very centre of the city. Given the park’s central location, it is easy to get there from pretty much anywhere around, so you could even come there after work or on a lunch break for some relaxed sunbathing on one of a few known FKK meadows (Freikörperkultur translates as Free Body Culture) south of Straße des 17 Juni. In the first half of the day, you can also refresh in one of those “showers” from sprinklers on the lawns throughout the park,

but one of the meadows has a proper shower installed.

The lawns of Tiergarten are perfect for frisbee, ball games, badminton and its new faster counterpart, speedminton. By the way, speedminton was invented in Berlin, so playing it in the centre of the city a la FKK sounds very authentic 😉

Joe and I used to play speedminton in Tiergarten pretty often, as you can see even rain wouldn’t stop us!

If you want to try something more ancient, how about naked oil wrestling? Tam and I certainly had fun reviving the Ancient Greek tradition.

As I had very little experience in wrestling, it was more of a lesson for me from Tam, but the very slippery aspect of oil wrestling was new to him too.

Given that it was olive oil, this exercise must have served as a nice skin rub too.

Despite the oil, we still managed to grip each other,

and each of us (but mostly me) got thrown on the grass too a few times.

The latter was more difficult staying lower with knees on the ground in our final match.

On another occasion, we wrestled two against one, but we certainly need more practice.

Another activity that proved to be fun in Tiergarten was acro-yoga.

We kicked off with some simple threesome poses.

After my incident with getting a fine for doing acro-yoga naked in San Francisco, it felt very liberating to do the same thing in Berlin with even more people and not being worried of getting caught by police! We had fun, and our nakedness only enhanced it.

Below is a good example of how good positioning that comes with experience lets even a much lighter ‘base’ person hold a heavier ‘flyer’.

However, when the flyer is much lighter, even the arms may be enough to support the flyer.

(Excuse our friend for clothes, but she didn’t feel like undressing at that moment.)

Some of the poses did not only feel relaxing (for the flyer at least),

but also provided opportunity to suntan those hard to reach places 😀

Some poses may seem simple but are fun to maintain,

and the next step is to learn to transition them into a totally different pose.

Such dynamic exercises are much more challenging for the base,

whereas the flyer should follow his directions and enjoy the ride

until he ends up in yet another unusual but stable pose.

This pose below serves as an excellent back and hip stretch for the flyer.

Here are some standing acro-yoga poses, starting from simple

to a more difficult balancing exercise.

Standing on shoulders of another person is probably one of those things that seem scary and challenging primarily for ‘mental’ reasons,

as the weight is the same as when you sit on the shoulders and the height isn’t that dangerous if you decide to jump off. I decided to avoid it though, due to my not fully recovered ankle.

Sean and Tam made it look easy from the first time!

Here is another pose that combines balancing and stretch (and transitioning into it is kind of scary).

Once you’re in the pose, don’t forget to point your toes (if you’re the flyer)!

We ended our session that time with the ultimate balancing exercise – two bodies maintained by one pair of arms!

I hope this blogpost will inspire Berliners and visitors of the German capital to use their main urban park for naturist activities. We can only wish for anything like this in Central Park in New York, Hyde Park in London or pretty much anywhere else in the world!

Ågesta: idyllic lawn and beach by the lake in Stockholm

Ågesta is an idyllic place within Stockholm city limits. It’s the top choice among local naturists thanks to the picturesque Magelungen lake, small cozy sandy beach, nice green lawn surrounded by trees; there are also basic amenities such as a shower and picnic tables. Just look around, and you’ll find a nice spot for yourself, either next to other people or in a quiet corner.

The flat lawn is great for sunbathing, of course,

but it would be also perfect for many activities, such as volleyball or football, yoga, martial arts and whatnot. Too bad local naturists didn’t seem to take advantage of that. I taught my local host, whom I got to know thanks to TrueNudists network, some basics of acro-yoga. We can only dream of having something like that in New York City! Well, at least a few people were swimming, and in the end of May the water was warm enough for that already.

I heard that Stockholm, and Sweden in general, used to be even more open to naturism, but the attitude is changing with the influence of prudish American culture and influx of immigrants, who are generally more conservative.

In the city itself, I could only see naked statues in abundance, but strangely enough, my bet is that people would probably not tolerate, if they saw the same thing in flesh…

Nevertheless, I did sunbathe naked for a bit at a secluded spot on Långholmen island with a nice view of the city. There is also a known area for nude sunbathing in the western part of the island but unfortunately without access to the water. Hopefully, naturism will be more accepted in Sweden soon again, and one wouldn’t need to look for hidden spots. אחרי , יומים של שנירקול במפרץ אילת המשכתי הלאה. התחנה הבאה במסעי ישראל היתה ים המלח. חברה שלי אירחה אותי אצלה בקיבוץ עין גדי (זה אותה החברה שלקחה אותי לחוף געש). הקיבוץ שוכן בשמורת עין גדי השלוה לחופו של ים המלח. הימה המלוחה היא הסיבה העיקרית לטייל במקום. אני ארחיב על ים המלח בפוסט הבא. בשמורה עצמה, המיועדת לטיול של יום שלם ברגל, אפשר לפגוש מגוון יפה של צימחיה מדברית ושערות שולמית. בשמורת עין גדי יש שני מעינות המפכים במשך כל השנה; נחל דוד ונחל ערוגות. נחל דוד הוא המתוייר מבין השניים ולא מומלץ להיסתובב בו בעירום. יש סיכוי גדול שתמצא את עצמך מוקף במטילים המגיעים לשם בטיולים מאורגנים.

אייך שעברתי את המפל איש השמורה קרא לי ואמר שמאוחר מדי להמשיך בשביל ושצריך לחבור לכיוון היציאה. זה נשמע לי לא הגיוני אבל לא רציתי להיתווקח. שמתי פעמיי חזרה לכיוון ים המלח.

בדרך חזרה במפל הגבוהה פגשתי קבוצה קולנית של חרדים צעירים ברובם. למה הם צועקים בשעה שהמקום כל כך רגוע. הצעקות שלהם החרישו את רחשי הטבע. נראה שבישבילם זה טיול לפרק שעשועים והטבע זר להם על מימו ובריכותיו הזקים. הבחנתי פתאום בקבוצת יעלים על ראש הקניון.

הם נראו כאילו הם מהרהרים בליבם ושואלים מה לקבוצה הרעשנית הזאת המשחקת במפל ולמידבר. טוב שהם כל כך רעשנעם. כך אני לא צריך לחשוש לפשוט את בגדי כי הקולות הרמים יודיעו לי מתי הם מתקרבים.

צף על המים בים המלח

המסע שלי בחופי ישראל החל בים סוף ומשם לים התיכון ועכשיו הגיע תורו של החוף המיוחד ביותר בישראל (ואולי היחודי ביותר שפגשתי אי פעם) הוא ים המלח.

ים המלח נמצא בנקודה הנמוכה ביותר בעולם כולו ואחד משלושה האגמים המלוחים הקיימים בתבל. ים המלח הוא אתר תיור חשוב בישראל. לימה וססיבותיה יש מטען היסטורי ורוחני עמוק. אבל בסיכומו של דבר אני ממש לא יודע. יש שרואים בים המלח כמקום לשהות קצרצרה בעיקר עם הגעת לשם במסגרת טיול מאורגן באוטובוסים רבי משתתפים. אבל יש גם חופים פחות מתוייירים שבהם אפשר לבלות יותר כי שם משך הזמן הוא אחר זאת בתנאי שתיזרום עם המידבר ותן לו לעשות את שלו.

חברתי החדשה שהמליצה לי על החוף באילת היא זאת שסיפרה לי גם על החוף שלה בים המלח. חוף פיראי ונפלא מול צוקי דרגות.

קו 847 אגד מירושלים לעין דגי תחנה צומת מצוקי דרגות. כך נראית תחנת האוטובוס (בסמוך לה יש עמדה צבאית) שבה עליך לרדת. שים לב שהאוטובוס לא יעצור אם לא תבקש מהנהג. אתה יכול להראות לו את התמונה של התחנה ולבקש ממהו לעצור שם.

לצרי נאלצתי לצאת בגפי ללא החברה. אז אייך היה.

בסרט למטה אתם יכולים להיתרשם מהתחושה של ציפה מרחפת במים הכבדים של ים המלח. התחושה היא יחודית ולא ניתנת לתאור. חייבים להינסות כדי להבין… מומלץ לכולם! זה לא דומה לשום דבר אחר. בקיצור זה נפלא. אבל זה רק צד אחד . הנוף השומם החסוף וחסר החיים של המדבר משרה אוירה של עולם זר ואחר.

מצד אחר – תחושת הריחף בתוספת המים החמימים והמלטפים מכהים את החושים ומשרים אוירה של נוחות ושלווה. תחושה זאת מתעצמת בלילה כשגם חוש הראיה מתעמעם. ריחוף חסר דאגות וכוכבים מנצנצים סחף אותי לתוך הרקיע עצמו…

טוב, באו נשוב למציאות. מומלץ לא לשהות במים המלוחים יותר מדי זמן מחשש להיתיבשות. כאמור בכול הנוגע לבריאות יש לפעול במתינות. יש במים מינרלים רבים העושים פלאות לעור ומשפרים את הבריאות הכללית. אבל צריך להיות זהיר. היציאה מהמים מלווה בתחושה מוזרה. המים האילו לא מקררים את הגוף והגוף בתגובה מתחיל להזיע באופן מוגבר. בסופו של דבר כשהזעה מתיבשת אתה נשאר מצופה בשיכבה של מלח. אם יש לך פצע טרי או אפילו שריטה זה עלול להיות לא נעים. אני נשרטתי בתוך במים כששחיתי.

לכן צריך למצוא חוף שקיימת בו אפשרות להישטף אחרי היציאה מהמיים. בחופים מוסדרים, כמו חוף עין גדי, יש מיקלחות על החוף (שחיתי בפעם הראשונה בים המלח בחוף זה. אפשר גם להוריד את בגד הים אבל מומלץ לעשות זאת במרחק מה משאר האנשים או בערב לצאת לשחיה לילית בעירום) בחופים פיראים של לודא שיש מעין של מיים מתוקים בחוף. מעינות מתוקים זה משהו שלא ציפיתי למצא בחופי ים המלח אבל החופים לא כולם חסופים בחלקם יש צימחיה והרי צמחים זקוקים למים מתוקים.

אכן המים המתוקים נמצאים לא רק מתחת לפני הקרקע. אפשר למצוא מעינות ובריכת מים מתוקים על החוף.

לא תמיד המעיונת נובעים. צריך לשאול מקומי על נקודות בהם יש זרימה או פשוט לתור בעצמך את החוף. הבריכה הזאת ממש מזמינה והטבילה בה היתה מרעננת.

הנוף הנישקף מהברכיה עצמה.

במקרה אחד כשירדתי לבריכה היא היתה מלאה בתירים בריטים, כולם בביגדי רחצה. הם נאבקו נואשות לנקות את עצמם ואת הבגדים בעודם לבושים וזה רק החיף את כמות החול וחלוקי הנחל שנכנסו לתוך הבגדים. בבדיחות הדעת אמרתי להם שזאת הסיבה שאני לא לובש דבר (למען האמת לא היתי מודע לבעיה הזאת של רחיצה בבגדים) בחור אחד נדלק על הרעיון והוא חייך אליי. אני חייכתי חזרה ומהר מאוד התברר שהוא רוצה משהו מעבר לזה. כשהחבורה עזבה את המקום הוא נשאר כדי להיתנקות בצורה יותר יסודית. הוא ואני נשארנו לבד בבריכה. מבלי להיתמהמה הוא החל לשלוח ידים. אני סרבתי ואמרתי לו שאני לא בקטע. בעינו העירום התפרש כהזמנה למין כאן עכשיו ומייד. החברה שלי סיפרה לי שהיא הוטרדה במקום מספר פעמים על ידי גבר חרדי שיושב ליד הבריכה (לבוש כמובן) וארב לנשים הבאות לשם לירחוץ בעירום. התנהגות וגסות כזו אפשר למצוא גם במגזר החילוני המערבי.

אפרופו בוץ – ים המלח מפוסם בבוץ שלו בעל סגולות המרפא ותיקון פגעי הזמן. הבוץ אף נמכר בעולם כתכשיר קוסמטי. ים המלח מתיבש ומצתמק. אחת הסיבות לכך היא כריית המלחים, המינרלים והבוץ מהים לצרכים כלכליים. סיבה נוספת היא הטיית מי הירדן להשקיה וצימצום כמות המים המגיעים בסופו של דבר לים המלח. הדרך הטובה והיעילה ביותר להשתמש בבוץ היא פשוט להגיע לים, לחפון בוץ טרי ועשיר במינרלים ולמרוח אותו על הגוף כולו (אל תפספס אף נקודה ;-)) ואז הישטף במי הים.

רוב היום היתי לבד בחוף דומם ורגוע יושב בצל השיחים מתבונן בגונים המדהימים בטן גב ים בריכה.

לקראת ערב פגשתי בחור נחמד. זן נדיר של היפי בין זמנינו. הוא סיפר לי שהוא מגיע למקום באופן קבוע ושוהה שם מספר שבועות באוהל המאולתר שלו. מזג האויר הקיצי בישראל מאפשר שהות בטבע מציוד בקמעט כלום.

הפתיע אותי שהיה לו אוכל מועט. הוא אכל בעיקר מה שמבקרים אחרים השאירו לו (גם אצלי זה כך).
מאוחר יותר הצטרף אילנו בחור הזוי נוסף. תייר אוסטרלי מצוייד בכלי אוסטרלי ענק. ההיפי הציע להראות לי בריכות נוספות אבל חששתי לפספס את האוטובוס האחרון. שני בחורים נוספים וכלבתם הידידותית שהו אף הם בחוף. התעניינתי אם הם יכולים לעזור לי, עם האוטו שלהם, בדרכם הביתה, להגיע למקום שממנו אוכל להסתדר בכוחות עצמי. הם הסכימו. דרך אגב הכלבה שלהם ניסתה לבצע צלילה במים המלוחים. אוי… לקח לה פעמים להבין שזה רעין לא כל כך מוצלח לצרוב את הענים והפה במים האילה. ההיפי הוביל אותי לבריכות לאורך החוף. לחלק מהבריכות היה צבע משונה ירוק עז ולבן ירקרק. האדמה שם היתה לא יציבה פריכה וקימחית. הכל נראה כמו לא מהעולם הזה. אני כנראה לא היתי מעז ללכת לשם לבדי.

כשחזרנו כבר התחיל להחשיך. החושך יורד מהר מאוד. לשימחתי זוג הבחורים וכלבתם היה עדיין שם. נודע לי שיש הקבלה בין ללכת על המים של איתן פוקס לבין צמד הבחורים, ערבי פלסטינאי ויהודי (מאירלנד) מתגוררים יחדיו בירושלים. בניגוד לסרט אין שום דבר מסעיר בחייהם. זה נגע ללב לראות את הסיפור הזה מתממש בחים האמיתיים. בסופו של דבר הם לקחו אותי חזרה לקיבוץ ומשם לירושלים לביתם. שהיתי שם מספר שעות בחיפוש אחר מונית שרות זולה (לא ידעתי שיש דבר כזה) לשדה התעופה לטיסה שלי שיצאה מוקדם בבוקר. איזה טיול

נפלא. ביקרתי במקומות מקסימם ופגשתי אנשים נפלאים.

North 40 Natural Area in New York City

Do you dream of having a naturist area in the Big Apple to have an easy escape from the hustle and bustle? I think we’ve found a perfect candidate place – North 40 Natural Area, a part of historic Floyd Bennett Field in Jamaica Bay. It is on the federal land and is a part of Gateway National Recreation Area, just like Gunnison Beach in Sandy Hook, so technically, no change in legislation would be necessary to allow nudity there… (Another possible location would be Fort Tilden, as was suggested by one of our readers.) Well, that’s if this place remains a park at all, as there is a controversial plan to build a massive gas pipeline going through this territory! How is this legal?

We went through a couple of winding trails, and it was nice to see that the forest was actually untouched besides the trails. The only other destruction was probably due to storms like Sandy. It’s hard to imagine what else could have made a tree to fall like that with its roots lifting all the soil under it.

One of the smaller trails brought us to the beach. It was full of trash, unfortunately, and we almost left disappointed.

Well, apparently our timing was perfect too. Just after we finished our snack break and were ready to leave, the water started soaking from beneath the grass. So, in high tide, this meadow must be filled with water.

We were not sure if passers by on the bridge behind could see us fully, but we could only wonder why this kind of mooning would be frowned upon.
