some exciting events, from Pilobolus show to streaking for tigers at London Zoo and Volleyball Super Bowl

There are some exciting events coming soon, very diverse in their agenda but you know what’s in common.

This Saturday, Jersey Shore’s Sandy Hook beach will see Tacoboy’s Annual Beachfest (check for my review from last summer). This potluck party attracts a fun crowd, many of whom are also participants of Burning Man festival, so expect the beautiful Sandy Hook beach to become more even vivid and festive than usual!

On Sunday, there will be another ‘burner’-inspired event but right in New York City, at DL Rooftop in East Village to be precise – I Feel… Pirates Beach. I’ve been to this venue before and it seems perfect for this kind of event, as it’s styled as a tropical paradise (as much as you can do it Downtown Manhattan). Their Facebook page says re ‘Dress code: Imagine you’re on a tropical beach with sexy pirates. Be a mermaid, an Islander, Nudist, Blackbeard, Morgan, Sparrow, Pirate/Pirate maiden, Gypsy, Victorian…. Use your imagination… Creative attire encouraged!’ So, as my friend from Vita Nuda puts it, it is a nude-friendly event.

Pilobolus

New York will also see what surely has to be a stunning modern dance performance by my favourite troupe Pilobolus on multiple dates in July and August at Joyce Theatre. Yes, you got it right, the dancers will be naked at least in one of the episodes. I loved their show last year, their Gnomen is probably my favourite modern dance act so far. So of course I got even more excited when one of the dancers commented  via facebook that he’d be wearing ‘less clothes than this photo [below].’

Pilobolus

It does say at Joyce theatre website that ‘the program [A] contains nudity’ (though this could still mean more than no clothing). Let’s see if I get a new favourite dance show on my list!

OK, so that you don’t think I am totally US-East-Coast-biased, here is a unique event that London Zoo is hosting on the 15th of August:  ‘Streak for Tigers’ – turn Englishmen’s favourite misdemeanour to a good cause! Zoological Society of London wants “300 supporters to strip off and bare all for tigers and streak around ZSL London Zoo! With only 300 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, this event will hopefully not only raise much needed funds for ZSL, but it will also highlight and raise the profile of the drastic work that needs to be done in order to save the Sumatran tiger.” London Zoo is the oldest scientific zoo, so I guess it’s going to be pretty much a historic event. I ran in a fundraiser race for Wildlife Conservation Society in the Bronx Zoo, but I could only wish we’d show our wild animal side there… I hope at least one of my friends in London will go, so we can get a first-hand report!

Then there is Burning Man, of course, which I am going to miss this year, but many people I know are going, including my burner friends AJ (the one who got his ticket thanks to me and this blog) and Niko, fellow blogger Brenton and an entire Naked Village organised by Vita Nuda group.

For those who have missed the World Naked Bike Ride in NYC or other cities in Northern Hemisphere, there is another chance in Philadelphia – Philly Naked Bike Ride is on Sunday, the 25th of August.

Finally, while on the naked trail race in Pennsylvania at Sunny Rest resort, I was reminded about the Naked Volleyball Super Bowl at another naturist resort in PA, White Thorn Lodge on the weekend after Labor Day (i.e., 6-8 September this year). It is a very big event that attracts even pro players! The lodge also offer great deals for the week and weekend, so it sounds like one of the best naturist vacations you can get! How about getting a team for αctive Naturists? Let me know if you are interested!

Act Naturally goes big

One year ago I went to a fundraiser screening of a naturist-themed movie called “Act Naturally” – you can read my short review here. Now it is shown as a part of United Film Festival in Los Angeles, New York and London. The festival is already over in LA, where ‘Act Naturally’ won audience choice award, but you can still buy tickets and see it in New York and London. Act fast, New York show is just 2 days away – Tuesday, the 15th!

Starkers! On London’s naked disco and erections at naturist locations

London’s Naked Disco ‘Starkers’ is quite a sought-after event, but I heard a lot of contradictory opinios about it, so I was very eager to visit it. I must say I really enjoyed it, and whenever I have a possibility I’ll go there again. But this visit made me think of what people call naturism and a naturist club. So, why did I enjoy it? Because I love dancing and being naked is natural to me, and there, I could do both at the same time; the atmosphere was absolutely liberating, and the music on the dance floor was good (house of early 2000s), I thanked the DJ in the end 🙂 But perhaps for some, the atmosphere there is too liberating. And this is where many people disagree about Starkers. So, it often seems that naturists try to separate naturism from any association with sexual activities; then Starkers is not a naturist venue. But if we accept that naturists are humans like any other and may get erections (male ones, of course), then it is a naturist club [as any other night club, it is of course an adult-only venue]. On the one hand, I find it normal that like in any other night club, people flirt there. And as a result of it, or for whatever else reason, you can see a few men with hard or semi-hard penises… Don’t you think this happens also in regular [clothed] clubs, but we just don’t see it because of the clothes? On many web-sites dedicated to naturism, it is said that men should hide or get rid of their erections in public (with a towel, cold water, thinking of smth unpleasant etc.); on some others, it is suggested not to bother about it and just behave normally. I find the second attitude healthy, as many men have spontaneous erections when they are relaxed, and even if it has a sexual reason (like you’ve seen someone attractive), it doesn’t necessarily mean sexually aggressive behaviour. I know some guys who don’t want to go to naturist places, because they are easily aroused but are afraid of getting erections in public. They wouldn’t jump on anyone, it’s mere physiology… So, actually it was a great feeling at Starkers that no one really cared about that. But on the other hand, what disappointed me was that it seemed that majority did come to Starkers for flirting/cruising. I just find it annoying, like in any other situation (beaches, saunas or regular dance clubs) that some people can’t just enjoy the environment and just look for a hook-up instead, and nudity is seen by them as merely a sexual trigger. It would be appropriate in a sex/swinger club, but as far as I’m concerned, Starkers is intended as a club for people who just like to hang out naked and dance. I could see that some of the visitors were not satisfied just with that and were constantly cruising. Nevertheless overall I had a positive experience, because there were also many friendly people,

who simply enjoyed dancing naked. And as I liked the music, that was enough to keep me in a good mood all the time. Well, except maybe the midnight show. That one was rather ridiculous, and it didn’t really make much sense to put some opera singing in the middle of house music disco. It was a pity that after the show people seemed sort of confused and needed some time to get into dancing mood again.

I’d certainly recommend visiting this club if you’d like to dance naked, and there’s no other naked disco to my knowledge. It is especially cool to go there on a chilly winter night, when everyone wants to hide under the coat or a blanket in the bed, and to feel yourself in another world. For directions and other information check the official web site of Starkers. And check out also my post dance naked! There is an inspirational video 😉
